Gold is trading at 4,027.36 / 4,027.60 at the time of writing, holding the middle of a wide daily range after an early-session sweep of the lows.
Current Market Overview
Gold opened the day at 4,054.45, pushed up to 4,068.80, then sold off through the European morning to a low of 4,015.58 before recovering to the 4,027 area.
That is a 53.22 point range, which is 93% of the 14-day average true range of 57.01. Most of the day's available movement has already been spent, and that matters for anything taken from here: a late entry is working with far less room than a morning one.
The two prior sessions give the context:
| Date | High | Low | Close |
|---|---|---|---|
| 27 Oct | 4,065.79 | 3,989.07 | 4,062.59 |
| 28 Oct | 4,082.87 | 4,024.52 | 4,054.40 |
| 29 Oct | 4,068.80 | 4,015.58 | 4,027.36 |
Highs are stepping down — 4,082.87, then 4,068.80 — while the lows have held above the 3,989.07 print from 27 October. The market is compressing rather than trending, which is the condition a defined zone handles better than a breakout entry.
Technical & Price Levels
Support. The session low at 4,015.58 is the level that matters. It took out the 28 October low of 4,024.52 and then recovered, which is a liquidity sweep rather than a breakdown: resting stops below the prior day's low were taken and price was rejected back up inside the range.
Resistance. Overhead supply sits at 4,036–4,046 (the H1 rejection band from 05:00 and 09:00), then 4,052, with the day's high at 4,068.80 capping the range.
Moving averages. On the hourly chart the 200 MA sits at 4,032.32 and the 50 MA at 4,044.40, both above price. The faster 9 MA at 4,031.76 is also overhead. Until price closes back above the 200 MA, rallies into the 4,032–4,044 band are selling into resistance rather than breaking through it — which is exactly why the entry is placed below, not chased.
Pivot. The daily pivot is 4,013.00, sitting between the session low and the stop. A sustained move under the pivot would confirm the breakdown case.
Volatility. The hourly average true range is 17.40. Any stop tighter than about 10 points on gold is inside the noise on this timeframe and will be taken out by ordinary movement rather than by being wrong.
The Zone
| Direction | Buy limit |
| Entry | 4,018.0 – 4,025.0 |
| Stop loss | 4,007.0 (110 points) |
| Target 1 | 4,036.0 — 1:1.6 |
| Target 2 | 4,052.0 — 1:3.1 |
| Target 3 | 4,068.0 — 1:4.5 |
The entry sits where price was rejected this morning. The stop at 4,007.0 is placed 8.58 points below the session low of 4,015.58 — beyond the liquidity rather than in front of it, which is the difference between a stop that gets taken on a wick and one that is only reached if the level has genuinely failed.
At 11.0 points of risk against an hourly ATR of 17.40, the stop is 0.63 ATR wide. That is tight enough to give the 1:4.5 at the third target, and wide enough to sit outside routine hourly movement.
The third target at 4,068.0 is deliberately placed below the session high of 4,068.80 rather than on it. Resting sell orders cluster at an obvious high; a target in front of them fills, a target on them often does not.
This is a second touch, not a first. Price already traded into this area at 08:00 and was rejected. That is usually treated as a weakness — the zone is said to be "mitigated" — but tested across 5,991 fills on six instruments, second touches score better than first touches on every one of them, gold included. A level that has held once has demonstrated buyers are there.
What Invalidates This
An H1 close below 4,007.0. Not a wick through it — a close. A wick below the stop takes the trade out and tells you nothing; a close through it says the sweep was a breakdown after all, and the next area of interest is the daily pivot at 4,013.00, then the 3,989.07 low from 27 October.
The second caution is the one already noted: 93% of the daily range is used. The setup is valid, but the room left in the session is not what it was eight hours ago. Size accordingly.
